odds and ends, and some pics

We've started the Great Moving Purge, and while I think we've been pretty successful at paring down, there's always the odd bits and stuff you don't know what to do with.  Keep it or let it go?

There's the 3 pieces of 2x4 lumber that we debated tossing, but then used one piece to fix the POS Malm dresser that broke when I was painting it, so that's useful and I should keep the rest, right?  I have a few sheets of plywood.  I've got a whole bunch of store-bought potpourri that contains twig balls and pine cones that I had planned to get around to spraypainting and putting in an apothecary jar.  There's the midcentury knockoff starburst clock I ruined when attempting to paint it but held onto thinking I might be able to salvage it someday.

I have a large number of odds and ends, waiting for the chance at a useful life somewhere down the line.  This is the stuff I have the hardest time letting go.  I might NEED that stuff someday.  It seems like every time I get rid of a knicknack or a piece of furniture, two weeks later I come across the perfect project for that piece, if only I had held onto it.

I'm also struggling with furniture....do I sell stuff on craigslist, or hold on to it, knowing I won't use it for at least two years?  I have a campaign desk with matching hutch that I'd like to give a makeover to someday, but there is no room in the next house for it.  It will sit in the garage for the next two to three years if I take it with us.  I'd really like to use the Purple Beast sofa in the attic playroom, but I have serious doubts about getting it up the attic stairs, which means it too will sit in the garage for a few years.  Decisions, decisions.

Over the last few days my two youngest children have been accurately and appropriately using the F-bomb.  Drop your yogurt?  Oh, EFFF.  Your brother took your toy?   Oh, EFFF!  Don't want to wear those shorts?  Oh, EFFF!!! While I am attempting to calmly note that word is not appropriate, please don't use it, while not making a big deal out of it so as to make the word more attractive, I am having a hard time not snickering at the cursing baby voices.

I don't know where they picked this up.  I would like to point out that *I* use the gerund form of the F-bomb.  Effing, if you will, rather than Eff. They did not learn the "Oh, EFF!" from me.  I will admit that the "I can't find my effing Batman cape" is probably all me, though.

The UPS man brought the rug I ordered for the Princess's room today.  Sadly, its not doing it for me.  The color is not quite what was shown on the website, and while I like the curtains with the rug, and I like the curtains with the orange dresser, I do not like the orange dresser with the rug.  The simplest thing to do would be to paint the orange dresser another color.

I'm totally looking forward to spending another weekend purging, packing and painting.  <---insert sarcasm here

Cooking has been not been going so well for me lately. I feel like I go in these cycles where I burn the crap out of everything.  Apparently we are on the upswing into another burning cycle.

No one wanted lunch today.

Nonno and Spiderman (or should I say, no it's just Peter) picture is adorable.

I'm torn on whether to get rid of or keep. I know what you mean about getting rid of something and then wishing you hadn't. It's usually with clothes for me though. Spending years in a garage would kind of be a waste, but I also like to reuse and repurpose things so...I've got nothing. I'm not the best decision maker though.

I'm a "get rid of stuff now, buy later when you need it / know better what suits house then" type, but I defer to you design expert types on that.

What I will not defer on is the adorableness of your sweet little girl in that pink mask, because that is simply not up for debate.

This was an "effing" funny post! I say get rid of stuff...either via craigslist or donating...that way you'll get to start fresh when you return...which is SO much fun!

My 3.5 year-old-son (born 10/23, the same day as your Peter, I believe) drops the f-bomb like a mo' fo' thanks to yours truly. But when he says 'effin' beeyotch' we honestly blame HBO, and my DH for letting the kid stay up past his bedtime and watch TV with daddy.

Love those playroom curtains! Would love to know where you got the fabric. I'll look 'round your blog some more for the info.

I think I'm putting furniture up on craigslist this weekend.

Hush--they are the Stockholm Blad curtain from Ikea.

Thanks, @Lisa - I love IKEA.
